This painting features multiple, thickly painted layers to represent how forests and wildlands appear from the lower heights provided by drone photography.

The use of drone photography as a reference point allows for a somewhat recently emerged perspective in the panoply of photographical history. Staying low to the canopy from above showcases the dense and complex patterns of foliage and terrain with a greater scrutiny. A bird’s-eye view that reveals more of the forest than what we typically think of in reference to topographical maps.

This piece dwells on how technology can offer new ways of seeing and understanding the natural world.

This piece was part of the "FOUND HORIZONS: Imagined Topographies" exhibition at the JHP Art Gallery.
